Why Wait for the Next Whistle-blower? Find Your Own Truth.

You would think by now we would stop believing corporate-sponsored news, avoid falling prey to manufactured demand, recognize green-washing and refuse to give our money to pink-washing companies. What will it take for you to demand the truth, to ask more questions, to research better solutions and take responsibility for your own health. In the 30’s doctors were recommending cigarettes for throat irritation. During the 40’s & 50’s smoking was suggested to men for good digestion and to women for weight loss. Even with the implementation of the first warning label in 1965, it began with a wishy-washy, “Caution: Cigarette Smoking MAY be hazardous to your health.” Once the 70’s came, the label evolved to “The Surgeon General has determined that cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health.” We knew by then it wasn’t “healthy” like earlier claims, yet this labeling did not successfully prevent some from starting, nor did it stop most from quitting. It shouldn’t have been shocking, but when whistle-blower Jeffrey S. Wigand came forward in 1996, we were in awe that such corruption, manipulation, and concealment could exist in our country. Sadly, I suspect that a good number of Americans didn’t accept the “real story” until we saw it on the big screen in 1999, when Russell Crowe portrayed the chemist in “The Insider”.
I will admit, I did not recall hearing anything in the news about the contamination of drinking water in the state of California (allegedly) caused by Pacific Gas and Electric Company until I saw the movie, “Erin Brockovich”. Since the case was actually settled out of court in 1996, the situation is recorded forever in history as alleged. I credit that film for opening my eyes to the fact that corporations will literally do anything to make money, we do not have any type of agency in place that can adequately protect us and that it will not be easy to protect ourselves, but we absolutely must try.
My husband and I had two healthy boys before Alec was born. Alec actually hit every notable infant milestone on target until 11 -12 months of age. He was walking, he had 4 distinct words and a few other sounds for specific needs. He acknowledged when his name was called, maintained eye contact and was a very affectionate little guy. This all began to disappear around his first birthday. My concerns were cast aside by our family practitioner, as well as the next pediatrician I went to for a second opinion and even my father-in-law, who is a physician, at the time agreed with the others that I need not worry. As it happened, their family had a history of late speakers. Another year would pass before he suggested we have Alec tested and he ended up being instrumental in guiding us to the best facility to do so.
I always troubled that vaccinations played a role in this disorder. After missing a well-check up for Alec due to a sibling taking ill, I was assured that it was perfectly safe to “double up” on his immunizations at his next doctor appointment. Soon after, however, the regression began. I am not of the belief that there is one single factor, I lean toward the science of epigenetics. The evidence continues to grow regarding environmental factors, toxins, and gut health as the culprits to the susceptibility ASD Related disorders. But here we go again. Last Wednesday, October 19th, CDC Director, Thomas Frieden refused to allow Dr. William Thompson from testifying in the Yates case where it has been said the CDC tampered with the findings, and instead submitted fraudulent science disproving any link between vaccines and autism. As attorneys Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Bryan Smith and their team at the law firm Morgan & Morgan appeal this in the courts, it time to dig deeper for our own answers. We cannot sit and wait for the court system to disclose the truth. If there was nothing to tell, the testimony would not have been blocked.
When Alec was diagnosed with ASD in February of 2000, the statistic was 1 in 10,000 children were identified with Autism. Just two years ago the data showed 1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls are within the spectrum. Vaccinations are not the only culprit to this epidemic. Nor should any mother or father fool themselves into believing that if their child is not on the spectrum, they have no reason to be concerned. It is a spectrum because it involves many areas of development, with immense differences of severity. The same environmental/toxic factors that cause ASD are to blame for the increased numbers of children, teens and adults with ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and more. Vaccinations aside, our families are exposed to hundreds of toxins each and every day. So let’s find some truth, shall we?
Dr. Kelly Brogan, formerly a conventional doctor, now holistic health psychiatrist, disclosed on her website, http://kellybroganmd.com, “The Canadian organization Environmental Defence recently tested the umbilical cord blood of newborns for known carcinogens, endocrine-disruptors, and neurotoxins only to learn that each baby’s blood contained 55 to 121 of these substances.” And it is fair to say that may be even worse here in the great U. S. of A. According to the Environmental Working Group, (http://www.ewg.org/guides/cleaners) “U.S. law allows manufacturers of cleaning products to use almost any ingredient they wish, including known carcinogens and substances that can harm fetal and infant development. And the government doesn’t review the safety of products before they’re sold.” One of my FAVORITE “quick reveal” films, “The Story of Cosmetics” outlines how our current system is broken.
Personal care products and the ingredients within are not even evaluated by the FDA. In over 75 years, among the 12,000 plus ingredients used in cosmetics, less than a dozen have been banned. These companies are not even required to list all the ingredients on the label. Currently, this area is self-regulated with optional compliance. It is very common for companies to “re-brand”, “rename”, “reformulate” to appear as though they are conforming to the public’s request to remove toxins, but in actually, they are just substituting one chemical for another. Another very common practice is naming and labeling products to appear to be something they are not. There are hundreds of brands that include the words “Organics”, “Nature”, “Botanical”, etc. and yet still rate high on toxicity by ewg.org because the name has NOTHING to do with what is actually in the product. The USDA states, “Multi-ingredient agricultural products in the “Made with organic ***” category must contain at least 70 percent certified organic ingredients (not including salt or water). These products may contain up to 30 percent of allowed non-organic ingredients.”
Okay, so I provided just a smidgen of resources that substantiate my truth. Where can you begin to find yours? For almost a decade, I had used https://www.ewg.org/skindeep to discover the best household and personal care products I could for my family. I was elated when they came out with an app and I could zap the UPC labels to see how they rated. Take some time to go to the site or download the app and start looking at the products you buy regularly for your home. Just a warning when you start, do not assume that when brand fares well in one product, they can be trusted to produce all their goods with equal care and safety. For example, a seemingly credibly conscience brand, let’s call it Sixth Genesis, has a terrific dish-washing soap, receiving an ewg.org toxicity rating of 1 on their scale up to 10, however, the Sixth Genesis laundry soap rates at a 7 or 8! Alternatively, you can seek out the top performing products and shop for those specifically. I conducted my shopping in this manner for some time, but ended up traveling to 5-6 different stores each week in order to complete my household needs. Another word to the wise, companies reformulate all the time, what rates poorly this year on ewg.org just may make the mark on next year's update. Sadly, the reverse is also true, double check your favorites from time to time.
Another option you can consider is DIY recipes, like those from my dear friends at healthylivinghowto.com to create your own natural household cleaners. This can be practically perfect in every way, as you will know every ingredient your household will be exposed to. I rather enjoy making my own concoctions, but the time, oh, if only I had more time... Which leads me to a third suggestion. One that doesn't support large corporations that care more about their bottom line then the safety of your family. Nor will it occupy all your free time with mixing, blending, combining, tossing, then jarring, bottling, labeling, and such.
Early 2015 I was introduced to Young Living by my favorite healthy living bloggers 😉. Every item created by Young Living is safe, unadulterated, uncut, and free of chemicals, pesticides, and heavy metals. All YL products are infused with therapeutic grade essential oils which are derived from their organic farms. And we can purchase these directly, no middle man or retailer. From seed to seal to our homes! When there are so many factors that are out of our control regarding toxins in this country, it is truly reassuring to know I have the safest household and personal care products available for my family. Essential oils have become very trendy, but hopefully based on everything I have stated earlier, you are keen enough to know not all are created equal. I would be honored to introduce you to all that Young Living can offer. If I haven't been successful in convincing you that Young Living is superior to anything else out there, I would implore you to do your due diligence and don't once again fall prey to the powerful persuasion of marketing and advertising.
